Ana Maria Pacheco Prints

A National Touring Exhibition organised by the Hayward Gallery for Arts Council of England, opened at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery.

Ana Maria Pacheco is an artist of extraordinary diversity, with work ranging from sculpture and painting to printmaking. Drawing on a wide variety of cultural references that include Brazilian folklore, classical myth, mystical Catholicism and medieval satire, she creates works that play with the craft of storytelling.

The exhibition was centred on a large sculptural installation, ‘Land of No Return’, previously unseen in this country. A series of drawings and prints were also exhibited, as well as two Artists Books, ‘A Modern Bestiary’ and ‘Sheba and Solomon’.

Complementing the main exhibition was ‘Ana Maria Pacheco Prints’, a new show focusing on Pacheco's work as a printmaker which brought together five sets of prints, ranging in medium from woodcuts to colour etchings and in subject-matter from ‘Gargantua and Pantagruel’ to ‘Tales of Transformation’.
