From Sickert to Gertler
Modern British Art from Boxted House
17 April - 12 September 2010
A major exhibition for Brighton Museum & Art Gallery
Brighton Museum & Art Gallery’s most important exhibition in 2010 will celebrate the lives of Bobby and Natalie Bevan, generous hosts and patrons of the visual arts, and the paintings that adorned their exceptional home, which was the gathering place for many creative individuals during the years 1946–74.
Works featured will include paintings by Bobby's parents, Robert Bevan and Stanislawa de Karlowska, and their friends such as Walter Sickert, Harold Gilman and Charles Ginner. These will be hung beside pieces by Bobby and Natalie's own friends: Christopher Nevinson, John Armstrong, Frederick Gore, John Nash, Cedric Morris, Lett Haines and others.
