Opened 3 March 2005
Brighton's new Jubilee Library is a £14 million landmark building and the focus of a new city square. It is part of an ambitious £50 million PFI regeneration scheme in central Brighton, which is transforming a major site, largely derelict for half a century, into a vibrant space for contemporary urban living.
This innovative, modern library, a large public building of unusually high quality, is one of the most energy efficient public buildings in the country. It offers a fresh and new approach to library service delivery. Jubilee Library also extends Brighton's flourishing cultural quarter, focused on the Royal Pavilion, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, Dome, historic Theatre Royal and Komedia cabaret venue.
Brighton & Hove City Council commissioned the library and site redevelopment and are running all aspects of the library service. The architects are Bennetts Associates and Lomax, Cassidy & Edwards. Mill Group is the investor, developer and operator for the Jubilee site re-development.
