The Secret Garden Kemp Town / Antony Dale Trust
The Secret Garden/ Antony Dale Trust is a unique facility for Brighton. It is the only garden of its type in the city, and the only place where major outdoor works of sculpture can be shown in a secure setting.
The Secret Garden/ Antony Dale Trust is a registered UK charity, governed by a small board of dedicated trustees, who are presenting a special exhibition, Black Blackbird and other sculptures by the distinguished sculptor Hamish Black , as part of Artists' Open Houses, Brighton Festival 2016 . This is the prelude to a programme of temporary exhibitions featuring established sculptors and the finest emerging new talents.
This first exhibition features three major works, all of which have been inspired by sound, including Black Blackbird , a site-specific sculpture, specially commissioned by the Trustees. The work is ten metres long, and is made up of over 200 semi-circles, cut from elm that fell in the Great Hurricane of 1987, and which have been charred black. This is a silent song in a secret garden.
